Event 19

In The Good Nurse: A Tale of Medicine, Madness, and Murder Charles Graeber recounts the true and gruesome story of Charles Cullen aka The Angel of Death, a nurse who Graeber’s nine year investigation showed to have murdered some 400 people over a 16-year period in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. “Should be compared to [Truman Capote’s] In Cold Blood”, reviewed The New York Times, “... the eagerness of ambitious hospital administrators to cover up his misdeeds is revelatory.” Graeber contributes to numerous publications, including Wired, GQ and The New Yorker and has had stints as a medical student and a poet. He has also written The Breakthrough: Immunotherapy and the Race to Cure Cancer (see Event 105). He talks about using narrative to make the complex both understandable and compelling with Hannah Brown.
