EAST WEST STREET: PHILIPPE SANDS
In East West Street, which won the 2016 Baillie Gifford Prize, Philippe Sands QC tells a double detective story of the Holocaust, interweaving a family memoir with the story of the origin of the terms ‘crimes against humanity’ and ‘genocide’ which emerged from the 1945 Nuremberg trial of leading Nazis. Vanity Fair called it a “rare thing… a book about international law that makes you want to keep reading”. Sands, professor of law at University College London, presents a talk on the story behind his remarkable work.
